Halloween Hodgepode 2009

I realize that this podcast is a day late, but hopefully it's not a dollar short. As I was facing numerous challenges over the past couple weeks, it was nearly impossible to find time to compile this year's Halloween mix. I worked on gathering the songs on Halloween during the day, and then I put the finishing touches in Audacity just before the clock struck midnight. I know there are plenty of dark souls who listen to this type of music throughout the year, so this one's for you. Then, next Halloween you can pull this one out and give it a proper spin during Halloween. This one is an eclectic mix of soul, surf, experimental, hip-hop and electronic music that is sure to keep your interest. I welcome any comments and suggestions about the show. Until next time...

KBOO Podcast Part 2

This is the long awaited second part to the KBOO Podcast. The songs featured on this podcast were originally intended to be played on KBOO radio, but there was only time for me to play a few songs. Scion Garage Fest Podcast

This podcast features the best of the old and new garage rockers who are playing this year's Scion Garage Fest this Saturday, Oct 17th. Even though Geno Washington and Jay Reatard had to cancel their performances, there are plenty of great bands worth checking out at the festival. Among the heavy hitters, are Black Lips, King Khan & BBQ, Roky Erickson, Simply Saucer and Gris Gris. That alone is enough to make the mouth of any garage rock fan drop to the floor in utter disbelief. Please check Eclectic Grooves in a couple days as I will be posting the setlist for this podcast on there. I would love to hear what you guys think of the podcasts, and make sure to tell all your friends about the Scion Garage Rock festival if you live in the Portland area. This is the second all-vinyl episode of I Hear a New World where I have taped the show in my living room with a digital recorder. This was a spontaneous show, much like the very first epsiode of I Hear a New World recorded in September of 2008. I was listening to a stack of records in my living room, when suddenly the urge to record a new podcast hit me. While I don't have the widest range of records, I felt that the songs I played this night were an accurate representation of my eclectic taste in music. The artists in this episode include Art Ensemble of Chicago, Gong, Yo La Tengo, David Bowie and Matmos. I hope you enjoy this episode, and I would love to hear what you think of it. Eclectic Mix

This is an eclectic mix that I put together one afternoon many moons ago. I was feeling especially mellow when I compiled this mix, but occasionally I upped the tempo with a funk track or a little free jazz. This is the conclusion to the Excursions In Space trilogy. Some of the artists that are included in this part of the podcast are: Ken Nordine, Broadcast, Kraftwerk and Angus Maclise. This episode focuses on a journey through space as well as the inveitable return back to civilization on planet Earth. Excursions In Space Part 1

This is the first part of three parts related to the theme of space including snippets from rare sci-fi movies, rare recordings of UFO mythology, authentic recordings of sounds from space and a myriad of sounds that emulate the experience of exploring space. Because I didn't want to interrupt the flow of the space theme, I have refrained from talking in between songs. Since this was originally supposed to be one two hour podcast, the introduction on the first part will be kind of confusing. I had to work through technical issues with Audacity which caused the podcast to be broken up into three parts, so not every part has an introduction or ending. I hope that this does not take away from your enjoyment of the podcast. Music Millennium Showcase

This episode features local bands who worked at Music Millennium while I was there from 2001- 2005. Those of you who check out Eclectic Grooves will recognize the names Cicada Omega and Baptist Arms, but the rest of the tracks are from bands I haven't featured on my blog yet. Most of the songs are taken from limited edition self-released CD-R's. There's everything from blues-boogie to mellow folk, from psychedelic to free jazz. I hope you guys enjoy this episode. I Hear A New World- Sonic Youth special

This is essentially my first foray into the world of music podcasting. I plan on making these shows as eclectic as possible, featuring music from every genre that is imaginable. This episode was directly inspired by the Sonic Youth biography Goodbye 20th Century. It contains music from bands that Sonic Youth was influenced by, friends of the band and bands that were undoubtedly influenced by Sonic Youth. Then, I close the set out with several songs that seem to fit the eclectic format of the show. Besides Sonic Youth, this episode features Nick Cave, Captain Beefheart, P.I.L., John Coltrane, etc. For those of you searching for something a little left of the dial, this show will be right up your alley.
